• Thayer Academy Trip to SpainJUNE 2017

  • Dear Thayer Spanish students and parents,
We are pleased to announce an opportunity to learn through travel in Spain this summer. This will be a 12-day trip similar to the program that we have offered since 2009.
  • Students spend the first part of the trip in Madrid, visiting some of the main attractions of that amazing European capital, as well as visiting other historical cities, such as Toledo and Salamanca. The second part of the trip is a homestay and visit in Vigo, Galicia, in the northwest part of the country. This trip is meant to enrich your child’s language and Spanish cultural learning experience, in addition to opening their world to friendships with native Spanish speakers in their country.
Students will travel accompanied by two chaperones: Mrs. Terri Lukens (Spanish teacher) will be the trip leader. The group will depart a few days after Commencement and will spend 11 to 12 days in the destination. In Spain, the group will:
The cost of this trip will be $4000 per student. That amount will cover: Round trip airfare Boston – Spain, ground transportation, 2 meals/day, entrances to museums and attractions, hotel and homestay. The cost for the program does not include money for lunch on the days before the homestay and other individual expenses (e.g. snacks and souvenirs). Students requesting financial assistance for this trip should communicate via email or letter to the Headmaster, Ted Koskores, their desire to travel to Spain in June 2017 and their need for financial assistance.
  • We can only accept 10 students for this trip and will need to be on a first come first served basis, giving preference to students who are in Spanish III or higher, but all interested students should apply.
  • In order to purchase airline tickets, we request that you submit a deposit of $1,000 (Check payable to Thayer Academy, with “Spain Trip 2017” written in the memo) with this application. This will be due by Friday, January 20 2017. No checks will be cashed until I confirm participation on the trip and am about to lock in our airfare. At the time of purchase, you will receive, via email, all flight details. The final balance of the trip will be due Friday February 10, 2017 along with a few other paperwork items that you will hear about later.
  • Immediate deadline requirements: Friday, January 20:
    1. Completed Trip Application, signed by one parent
    2. a deposit of $1000
    3. A letter of introduction to your host family in Spain written in Spanish.
